Aircraft Cleaning and Corrosion Control
This course covers aircraft cleaning and corrosion control. It addresses the methods of cleaning and stripping an aircraft, wash primers, epoxy paints, zinc chromate primers, and polyurethane paints. The course starts by introducing the common types of corrosion encountered on aircraft. Each type is further explored by looking at what causes it, what it looks like, and the corrosive agents that could be involved in its formation. The types of inspections involved in detecting corrosion, and the most likely places each type is found are discussed in detail. The processes used to remove corrosion, treat corroded areas, and protect against further damage are presented. The information presented in this course is from Avotek’s Aviation Mechanic–General textbook. Additional information on aircraft corrosion and control is in Avotek’s Aircraft Corrosion Control Guide. Both books are available for purchase through Avotek.com.
